Turkey

Mid-April 2014, I spent a busy week in Turkey ! I strolled by boat, bus and balloon, and I visited Cappadocia under the sun. I let you discover all of this in pictures !

During my first day in Turkey, I made a boat trip on the Manavgat River, not far from the city of Antalya.

I enjoyed the sun as well as the national drink : raki !

The Manavgat River runs along the Mediterranean sea before flowing into it. I enjoyed a sunbath on the beach !

I found a sign that I had not yet in my collection ! In addition, I learned some vocabulary in Turkish : "dur" means "stop" !

On the way to Cappadocia, the landscape is very pleasant : meadows, trees, old walls ... If there was not that much sun, you could almost believe it to be Ireland !

I am now in the city of Konya, in front of the Museum of Whirling Dervishes !

Still in Konya, a former Koranic school that is now a museum. Sciences were taught here, and many bas-reliefs such as this one are exhibited.

As I am on the Silk Road, I come across some caravanserais, including the one of Sulthahani. When I was on my way to Cappadocia, a party was going on, so it was decorated and filled with shops and exhibitions. I’ve made a friend !

Here I am in the underground city of Kaymakli. Over the ages, it has served in various populations to protect themselves from invaders and aggressors.

Here is Mount Hasan, one of the volcanoes of Cappadocia ! Look carefully in the background !

It is 6:00 in the morning, it’s cold outside, and I am ready for hot air ballooning ! ...

... Unfortunately, the winds are not favorable to me, and the balloon will not fly that day, I woke up early for nothing ... I still had the opportunity to take a ride in the gondola !

And here’s a typical landscape of Cappadocia ! This is the Valley of the Pigeons, which simply takes its name from the many pigeon houses carved into the rock !

I continue my way to the open air museum of Goreme. Here, there are churches carved into the rock, and their interiors are mostly decorated with frescoes dating to the ninth century for the oldest. I could not take pictures inside, it was forbidden !

Still in the museum of Goreme, I found a place to take a group photo ! But I was all alone ...

Here is the Valley of Love and its very special reliefs !

I found a house for sale ! I seriously think about investing ...

In the same village, I climbed on top of the troglodytic structures, it was very impressive !

Here I am in Uchisar, in front of the imposing fortress carved into the stone.

Today is the big day ! The wind is more conducive to a quick getaway in a balloon, I’m going to fly away ! And I’m not the only one : look at all those balloons in the sky !

I’m flying ! I’M FLYING !

I visited a carpet factory, it was very interesting and enjoyable to rest my legs !

Hello !

Here is the Camel, a well named rock !

I improvised myself as a bus driver !

Back to Sulthahani Caravanserai, this time I went to the top !

We return to Antalya, and for that you have to cross a pass at over 1800m ... there is snow !

And now I’m back on the coast, it gets a little warmer !

I introduce you to Enis, who was the guide for our group during this week !

And I’m back to Antalya at the end of the stay, where I went for a little walk in the harbor.

Still in Antalya, the waterfall Karpuzkaldiran, which flows directly into the Mediterranean.
